The Baton of Hope Business Networking Breakfast @ Rockwater

The Baton of Hope is coming to Brighton & Hove on Wednesday 5th July and you are invited to be part of the event by attending the Baton of Hope Business Networking Breakfast from 7.45am – 10am at Rockwater on Hove Seafront.

What is the Baton of Hope?

The UK’s biggest suicide awareness and prevention initiative, the Baton of Hope, comes to Brighton on Wednesday 5th July. The aim of this national tour of 12 towns and cities on 12 consecutive days is to raise awareness of suicide but also to start necessary conversations, prompt important actions, and to unite the nation with a goal of being a zero-suicide society. On the 5th July 90 baton bearers will weave their way across the city with events at various locations throughout the day with entertainment, stories of hope and time for people to gather together ending the day with an evening of entertainment at the Dome in Brighton.

The first event of the day is the Baton of Hope Business Networking Breakfast @ Rockwater where there will be a celebration as the Baton of Hope passes plus the baton will make a special appearance at the Breakfast.

The charity’s vision is for…

A society where suicide and suicide prevention are openly and widely discussed, where we inspire hope through action, where people are suitably supported, and where everyone plays their part in realising this vision.’

Why are we organising a Business Networking Breakfast?

The Breakfast is gathering leaders together with plans to inspire, inform and make change for the future. We can all play our part and can make a difference individually and collectively.

As Business Leaders and owners; you are in a position to influence and create a culture of support within our organisation which will not only impact teams but their family and friends and the wider community.

If we all know the signs to look out for, how to start a conversation if worried about ourselves or others and where to signpost and get help – the ripple effect will be phenomenal!

Why attend?

• The Breakfast is an opportunity to network with other business leaders in a relaxed, friendly environment

• Listen to our inspiring guest speaker Leon Taylor – Silver Diving Olympic Medallist and now Mentor and Coach to the GB Olympic Team & Paralympic Athletes and Business Leaders and Mental Health Advocate and Public and Ted Talk Speaker and Voice of BBC Diving!

• Hear from one of the founders of the charity – Mike McCarthy who will be talking about the new workplace charter and the vision for the Baton of Hope

  • We will be supporting the Baton going past and welcome the baton with baton bearers who will be sharing their inspirational true story of Jonny Benjamin’s global search to find the stranger(Neil Laybourn) who gave him hope and dissuaded him from ending his life in 2008. Their story was shared on the Channel 4 documentary Stranger on the Bridge.

• It is taking place on the Rooftop Restaurant at Rockwater, Hove and will include a delicious Breakfast in beautiful surroundings.

  • By attending you will support the Baton on its journey, and you will be starting the conversation. The more we talk and more importantly listen the better it is for all of us.

Guest Speaker – Leon Taylor

We are delighted to have Leon Taylor Olympic Diving Silver Medallist, Executive Coach and Mental and Physical Wellbeing Advocate as our guest speaker. Along with his diving partner Peter Waterfield, Leon managed to secure the first British diving medal in 44 years at Athens 2004, which led to a new investment in the sport and development of new talent.

He was in Team GB for 16 years and is now a mentor to Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes. He is also the ‘voice of diving’ at the BBC.

Leon has a passion for engaging audiences about the challenges of mental health, via various media channels the BBC, TEDx talks, through Young Minds Charity.
