Emerging Technology | European Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools 2026-2027 | Proposals should cover both the organisation of the European Researchers’ Night and the implementation of the Researchers at Schools initiative. The European Researchers’ Night takes place every year, on the last Friday of September. It supports events that can last up to two days: they can start on Friday and continue the following day. Pre-events, prior to the main event, and related post-events, such as wrap-up meetings or small-scale follow-up events, can also be organised. It is the occasion for a Europe-wide public and media event for the promotion of research careers. The European Researchers’ Night targets the general public, addressing and attracting people regardless of the level of their scientific background, with a special focus on young people and their families, pupils and students, and notably those who do not have easy access to, and thus are less inclined to engage in STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) or research activities. The Researchers at Schools initiative brings researchers to schools and other pedagogical and educational centres to interact with pupils on societal challenges and on the key role of research to address them. Pupils will thus also learn directly about research projects and initiatives related to EU main priorities. Types of activities European Researchers’ Night activities can combine education with entertainment, especially when addressing young audiences. They can take various forms, such as exhibitions, hands-on experiments, science shows, simulations, debates, games, competitions, quizzes, etc. Where appropriate, engagement with educational institutions should be sought in order to encourage formal and informal science education with the aim of improving the scientific knowledge base. The European Researchers’ Night should be highlighted as a European (and Europe-wide) event, and each proposal should promote the European Union and its impact on citizens’ daily life in the most appropriate way, according to the set-up and the configuration of the event, its location and its activities. Researchers at Schools activities will allow researchers to showcase their work and interact with pupils. Researchers will engage with teachers, educators and pupils on challenges related to climate change, sustainable development, health and other issues related to the European Commission priorities and main orientations, such as the European Green Deal or the EU Missions. The Researchers at Schools activities should take place at any time during the project duration and should be subject to a dedicated promotion, particularly towards schools and other pedagogical and educational centres. Involvement of researchers funded by Horizon Europe or previous Framework Programmes, notably by the Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions, is highly encouraged. Both the European Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools initiative should promote gender balance, diversity and inclusiveness in science in terms of planned activities and researchers involved. The European Commission has defined priorities, notably through the EU Missions, which aim to tackle challenges faced by our societies. Applicants are encouraged to focus on, and include activities relating to these priorities identified by the Missions in their events. Partnerships and coordination at regional, national or cross-border levels will be strongly encouraged aiming at a good geographical spread and avoiding overlaps. Activities carried-out in non-associated third countries are not eligible for funding. High-quality applications not retained due to lack of funding may be granted the status of associated events. Eligible costs will take the form of lump sum contributions as stipulated in Decision of 11 March 2021 authorising the use of lump sum contributions and unit contributions for Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie actions under the Horizon Europe Programme. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals covering activities for both 2026 and 2027, including the organisation of two successive editions (2026 and 2027) of the European Researchers’ Night and implementation of Researchers at Schools activities during the project duration. Emerging Technology | Open Call for Proposals – Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects | ESA Business Applications’ Open Call for Proposals – Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects is always open. Businesses from any sector can apply throughout the year, and the amount of funding may vary according to the project. The goal of this activity is for the business to develop a new commercial service that utilises one or more space asset (such as Satellite Communications, Earth Observation, Satellite Navigation, Human Spaceflight technologies and other space assets). Feasibility Studies Feasibility Studies provide the preparatory framework to identify, analyse and define new potentially sustainable applications and services within the ESA Business Applications programme. They shall comply with the following requirements: they are user/customer driven, they benefit from the integrated use of one or more space assets and the tenderer intends to pursue a demonstration project after successful completion of the feasibility study. The Feasibility Study is likely to run at least 6 months but shall not run longer than 9 months. The duration depends on the complexity of the activity and the degree of upfront buy-in by user communities and other partners. Assuming the Feasibility Study is successful, it is expected that it evolves into a Demonstration Project, the final target being the implementation of a commercial service. Demonstration Projects Demonstration Projects are dedicated to the implementation of pre-operational demonstration services within the ESA Business Applications programme, which therefore comply with the following requirements: they are user driven (including user involvement and contribution), they benefit from the integrated use of one or more space assets, with clear potential to become sustainable in the post project phase. A demonstration project is expected to have a pilot activity, where the service/product is trialled with the customer in a pre-operational environment. The Demonstration Project duration depends on the complexity of the activity and is typically between 12 and 24 months. Assuming the Demonstration Project is successful, after the completion of the contract with ESA it is expected to evolve into an operational service. Funding ESA offers funding and support to companies, both for business case assessment and for the development of new, space-based services. Emerging Technology | Space for Olympic Games | The Thematic Call for proposals aims at supporting new space-based services for the digital transformation and sustainability of the sport sector, specifically in the organisation, management, and further exploitation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It primarily targets the next Games in Europe – Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026, with the ambition of providing services for the future Games as well, ensuring continuity of the sustainability model. Given the extreme visibility and relevance of the Olympic Games, the proposed applications must demonstrate robustness and reliability. A fast and short-term implementation of the proposed application is subject to a proved maturity and integrity of the service. A longer development and validation process should be built on a sensible plan potentially involving more events and Games editions to support the final deployment of the service, where one edition of the Games or a major sport event could be used as a test-bed before operational deployment of the service. A continuous use of the proposed service throughout subsequent Games is encouraged, as well as the implementation of a continuous learning approach from one edition to the other. Some of the needs are shared across the whole sport industry, especially regarding competition events. Applicability of the proposed service to different major sports events is encouraged and should be taken into consideration. Each proposed service should assess its economic viability for the service provider and the cost-benefit analysis of the potential customers (eg the Olympic Committees). | None specified | 31-Dec-25 | Find Out More (Webpage)

Emerging Technology | Space4Rail | Worldwide, transport demand is growing at unprecedented rates. In parallel, CO2 emissions, climate change, and security of energy supply are some of the major challenges to be addressed at European and global scale in the years to come. The railway sector can play a pivotal role in addressing the increased demand of transport, whilst concurrently tackling the above mentioned challenges. Indeed, rail travel has all of the characteristics and potential to become Europe’ss most sustainable, cost-efficient, high-performing and customer-centric form of transport. Digitalisation in railways is instrumental in achieving this. Because of its intrinsic nature, rail has a hugely expensive infrastructure; therefore it is necessary to get the most performance and capacity out of what is already available without incurring further large investments. In this respect, the use of space assets can support innovation in rail, introducing the adoption of new technologies that embed interoperability and continuity of service by default. ESA open call ‘Space4Rail Downstream Applications in ARTES 4.0’ aims to support the exploitation of space-based assets (satellite navigation, satellite communications and/or Earth observation) in innovative and sustainable applications/services: Related to future control, command and signalling applications of the European Rail system; Improving the performance and attractiveness of the railway, both for railway undertakings and end users. Collaborations can be between water companies or with organisations in the energy, manufacturing, health or financial services sector. There are five key areas that Ofwat have identified that are big challenges for the sector, which would benefit from additional innovation, expressed in the five strategic innovation themes. Through the competitions, the Innovation Fund will support initiatives that can deliver significant value for customers, society and the environment aligned with one or more of these themes: Responding and adapting to climate change, including how to meet the sector’ss ambition of net-zero emissions. Restoring and improving the ecological status of water environments, protecting current and future customers from the impacts of extreme weather and pollution. Understanding long-term operational resilience and infrastructure risks to customers and the environment, finding solutions to mitigate these in sustainable and efficient ways. Testing new ways of conducting core activities to deliver wider public value. Exploring the opportunities associated with open data, stimulating innovation and collaboration, for example, encouraging new business models and service offerings that benefit customers, including those in vulnerable circumstances. Emerging Technology | Scottish Equity Partners (SEP) | Scottish Equity Partners is a leading venture capital group based in Glasgow and London. Investments are made in information technology, healthcare and energy technology businesses at all stages of development throughout the UK. Venture capital is long-term, unsecured, risk-sharing equity capital for unquoted companies. A venture capital funder invests in a company by purchasing shares in the company. Venture capital financing is suited to situations where a business has high growth potential and the owner is willing to sell some of the company’s shares to an investor. Returns are entirely dependent upon the growth and profitability of a business, so venture capital investors are looking to invest in companies with strong growth prospects and talented, commercial management. Unlike a bank or other debt funder, which will have a legal right to interest on a loan and its repayment, a venture capital investor will get an income yield on its investment only if the company is profitable and will only get a capital gain on a sale of its shares in the company, normally on a sale of the company to a trade buyer or on flotation. Unlike other venture capital organisations, SEP does not take a seat on the Board but introduces companies to experienced non-executives who can complement existing management teams. SEP raises funds from blue-chip investors, global finance institutions, alternative asset management companies, pension funds, family offices and corporates. SEP aims to be a key general partner for investors with a long-term commitment to the venture capital asset class. | £50,000,000 | None specified | Find Out More (Webpage)

CONSULTANCY & SUPPORT
We understand that trust is earned when it comes to looking after your interests and advising you about your business. No-one wants to pay to hear what they already know – that’s why we take the time to immerse ourselves in your situation and identify the right people, skills, expertise and tools to help. Our team of senior consultants have all been on their own entrepreneurial journeys and know exactly what it takes to nurture an idea into a successful business.
